In My Mailbox #31

In My Mailbox is a weekly feature hosted by the wonderful The Story Siren where we get to drool with one another over the awesome books that came in the post this week.

I've actually already read Mara Dyer, Darkness Falls and Fated and LOVED them all. But the publishers sent me finished copies of the first two (<3333) and I won Fated from a contest the amazing Sarah Alderson hosted late last year. Not only is it signed and personalised (as seen above!) but she put little notes through it, inspirational quotes and a very helpful bookmark on page 246 aka KISSING PAGE :D

Everneath looks just as gorgeous in real life as it does on the computer! Is it not one of the best coveres of 2012 so far? I cannot freaking wait to dive into it. I'm nearly finished Fracture, which is fantastic! I've read some mixed opinions on Why We Broke Up, but I love the premise, so hopefully I'll like it.

What's in your mailbox this week?

Time has nearly run out! Be sure to enter to win:

:P Really excited for you Brodes *applauds* And an applaud should go to Sarah too!

I'm in Brussels at the moment, so who knows what books I got this week -which I'll find out in a week and a half when I get back home and see the pile of 6 weeks worth of books on my bedroom floor.

I'm reading Everneath and it's pretty interesting! There's a countdown aspect that's definitely building the anticipation towards the end.
I got Why We Broke Up as well. The actual book is so adorable. I hope I like it as much on the inside as the outside!

    Enjoy your books Brodie!

  20. LOOOOOOVE Fated, Everneath and Mara Dyer, as you know! Fracture was good but didn't wow me… Looking forward to getting WWBU next week! :) Happy reading!

  21. Ummm... and have you SEEN the contents of your mailbox? It's, uh... full of AWESOME :O
I bet you walked to your letterbox, wondering why it had exploded, then saw the books and was all like "Aaaah, yeah, well that makes sense: too much AWESOME."

Aaaaah! And Fracture! I so want to read this one! I just like saying the name "FRACTURE FRACTURE FRACTURE". It reminds me of fractils (did I spell that right?) in math, which are not only pretty, but pretty to saaaaaaaayyyyy. Like in Donnie Darko, with "Cellar Door". Pretty words.

And I disagree with you about the cover of Everneath, Im sorry. It does NOT look as pretty in real life as it does on screen... *hides*

    ...

    ...
    It's prettier :P
Also, I love the feel of it... *strokes lovingly* kind of waxy and nice and lovely? I have other matte-finished covers, but this is especially nice XD

ALSO! Kissing: spoilers. SPOILERS I SAY *not letting this one go*

    1. OMG. I didn't see. *LOOKS CLOSELY* Holy crap, you're right. It's AMAZING. Actually, nearly all my mail gets sent to a P.O box, buuut I was all OH MY GOSH LOOK AT ALL THOSE PARCEL SLIPS when I opened it :D

LOL you are such a crazy psycho. But this is why I love you. Finished Fracture today and LOVE. I was expecting to enjoy it, but not how much it sucked me in.

You scared me for a moment. Because if you seriously thought Everneath was ugly, I may have disowned you. No lie. Yes! It DOES feel so pretty! I have stroked it way too often than is appopriate for a straight woman to stroke another woman's picture... AHEM.

      *IGNORES*

      Delete
    2. *cough* I have kind of been lovingly stroking it every time I'm in the same room as it... it's just... so SO pretty.

And Fracture was that good? EEEEEEEEEE! I'm excited! I remember reading the cover copy for it MOOONNNTTHHHSSS ago and being all like "Oooooh yes."

You know people get smoke breaks at work? I wonder if "I'VE-JUST-GOTTA-RUN-TO-THE-BOOKSHOP-BYE!" breaks count as well? Hmmmmm... Wait... is it even out yet? *runs and checks Booktopia* YESSSS! SCORE!!!!

      Delete
    3. There's SOMETHING about Fracture that is just so brilliant. I think it's because the emotions are just so RICH. I felt everything Delaney did and that's the sign of a good book. Plus the plot was totally intriguing.

YES. It's discrimination against bookworms if they deny it! You get smoke breaks AND lunch. So food and smokes are accounted for, where is the book love, hmm?? You, however, would likely get declined because it looks like you go on the internet and work in the breaks LOL. HOW do you manage to get online so often at work?! Or doesn't your boss mind?

    4. Ummmm... honestly? I have a problem. I need to focus more at work. I'm an ADD kid. Easily distracted. Everytime my phone buzzes, I'm like 'OH! SHINY!'

And I'm sorry, but yes. It SO counts. ONE POUND is worth AUD $1.4. That could buy me..... well... uh... SOMETHING COOL. So it counts. You failed. I cackle. Buahahahaha.

I'm kinda wary about even starting it now because I've just seen those tweets about today's episode and it doesn't sound good! :S

  33. Thanks for swinging by!

I didn't love the first in TMI series :( Everyone says it gets better! Did you read a few of them? What didn't interest you?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I read the first three in the TMI series and I started Clockwork Angel but... gave up halfway through. I don't know what it is. Her writing, maybe? I found myself just not caring half the time. I'm skimming over paragraphs just to get it read faster. And I wasn't particularly in love with any characters... I'm one of the very few, since the books are SO popular, but I guess there's always going to be a few a story just doesn't work for. I do hope you find the rest more enjoyable though! Sucks when the hype doesn't live up to your expectations :(

Weirdly though, I'm excited to see how the movies turn out!

      Delete
  34. Ahhhh! Your copy of Fated looks so cute! I loved that kissing scene!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh, poet Brodie, where can I read this winning poem of yours? Since I'm looking at what you said about TMI, I'll tell you bluntly. I decided I'm not going to pick up anything Clare writes. At least for now. There's just way too much hype and things go wrong when that amount of hype is present.

Fracture was AMAZING, but you already knew that. ;)

I'm reading Fated, and I forgot how readable Sarah's writing was! I only had time to read one chapter last night, but I seriously wanted to read more. (I'd already spent like an hour reading 50 pages of Blood Red Road, and it was like 3:30 am)

I'm really struggling with my MARA DYER review. I was struggling even when I'd just finished it. I'm thinking a 4. It was a real ride when I was reading it, but the details and the characters just don't stick in my mind. Do you change your mind about books you review, or do your feelings usually stay the same over time?

Hooray! I can look forward to WHY WE BROKE UP, which I requested. I love books with a little extra to it. And Everneath, let me know when you start reading it, so I can get onto it too! :)

Happy reading! I'll be doing my IMM (of 5 weeks) this Sunday. Hopefully catch up on reviews too...

    1. Hahaha okay.... be warned, it's VERY lame. And my poetry skills, contrary to popular belief, are pretty terrible :P http://eleusinianmysteriesofreading.blogspot.com/2011/09/why-you-must-read-hunting-lila.html - it was my entry for winning the signed copy of Fated ;)

I can understand that, especially where the hype is concerned because you go in expecting SO MUCH and if it falls flat... massive disappointment. I did have a copy of the 4th TMI book, but ended up giving it away - 3 books in that series was enough for me and while I felt her writing improved in CA... something happened that just made me lose attention. So sadly, don't think I'm ever going to be the kind of fan others are =\

Hehe. I have so many scattered thoughts and paragraphs written on my Fracture review, it desperately needs STRUCTURE.

I know!! Her writing is so easy to fall into and plot just moves at a swift pace. Oh, how is Blood Red Road? I have a copy, but yet to read it.

My thoughts sometimes change over the course of time, which is why I'm always so iffy about ratings. It'd be better to just put my thoughts out there, but I rely so much on how other people rate when reading reviews that I probably won't get rid of thtem. And rereading tends to affect my opinion - whether good or bad. But I don't get to do that often these days.

WWBU is so unique! I hope it doesn't disappoint. I'm reading BZRK at the moment (it's great, but I'm in a sloooow reading slump), then TFIOS and hopefully Everneath after. Unless I get BW this week, since that's released earlier.

WEE!! Can't wait to see your awesome IMM! :D
