2011 Releases I Regret Not Reading

Bloggers are pretty much on the ball when it comes to new and upcoming releases, but that doesn't mean we always have time to read every single book we're craving for. Many unfortunately get pushed to the bottom of that neverending TBR pile, a sacrifice for another hot new release. But that doesn't make us any less eager to read them!

SO. Here are some 2011 that I sadly missed reading, but plan to force myself to this year because they sound freaking INCREDIBLE!

Reviews: Amaterasu Reads, Poetry to Prose, Mindful Musings
You might have seen the blogosphere and Goodreads go crazy with this self-published bad boy last year. Buzz spread like wildfire and EVERYONE was frothing at the mouth over it. When bloggers I love are saying things like it's one of the best books they've read in 2011, I know I'm in for something special!

The buzz for this one feels like that time when I heard so much about Anna and the French Kiss, but ignored it for a couple of months. Then I read it. And fangirled like crazy. Catching Jordan sounds like THAT kind of contemporary, the one that leaves you with a stupid grin on your face. I want it, I want it, I want it, I want it!

Reviews: Hooked to Books, Gone With The Words, Some Like It Paranormal
This one is all thanks to Asher and her IMM's of awesome and then showing me a sexy, sexy teaser. I loved Shade and I mean... there's a guy. With a Scottish accent. And a kilt (I won't rule out still falling for Logan). I am hereby pledging to catch up on this dang series ASAP so I can be ready for Shine (#3)!

Add it: Goodreads
Reviews: Tales of the Inner Book Fanatic, I Like These Books, All of Everything
I even OWN a copy of this and it's STILL UNREAD! I don't even know why, because I loved The Body Finder, I adored Jay & Violet and the creepy additions Kimberly wrote from the killer's perspective were fantastic. Someone please punch me for having waited so long.

Add it: Goodreads
Reviews: Candace's Book Blog, A Backwards Story, Mundie Moms
Candace convinced me with her review early last year. The protagonist sounds like one you can really root for and connect with. There's mystery and fantasy and action and twists, plus a swoony male lead? Need it. Need it now.

Reviews: Poetry to Prose, Beneath Shining Stars I Read, Once Upon A Twilight
I've seen many varied reviews, most saying it was AMAZING, but the second half let them down. But the GOOD things about this have me not caring if the second half isn't as good as the first, I WANT to read it for the creepy, thrilling, nail-biting story. I'm giddy just thinking about it!

What 2011 (or older) releases do you regret missing out on when they first released?

I might do another post soon on some older releases I think YOU need to read (they're good. I swear. REALLY GOOD).

  1. For 2011 – DIVERGENT (I KNOW!!!), The Night Circus, Daughter of Smoke and Bone (I have not heard one bad word about this book), The Iron Thorn, Steel (I do have a copy of this one, so I’m half way there!), The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, and almost every book released over the last year! I wish I could read everything.

    1. Ooh! The Night Circus, yes! There was a time where I could not go ANYWHERE online without hearing about that book. I'd like to read it to see what all the fuss is about! And The Iron Thorn + Steel too, they sound badass <3

Divergent, DOSAB and Mara Dyer were three of my absolute FAVOURITES last year and likely in my Top Ten all time favourites list. OMG. When you do read them, make sure you tell me what you think!

  2. Catching Jordan was great! I also held out on reading Anna and the French Kiss for way too long, and it is a similar kind of contemporary:)

    1. Oooh you're one better than me by actually owning copies of them both haha. OMG I thought you had read DOSAB!! I would have bugged you about it earlier if not. (Hey, remember that time you wouldn't shut up about The Iron Fey? PAYBACK buahahhaa). It's one of the most AMAZING books I've read. BREATHTAKING <3

And every other book you mentioned save for Clockwork Prince, I FREAKING LOVED. Goddamn. I was talking about Obsidian with Lisa #2 the other day and... agh, I need a reread. Daemon is a sexy bastard. I lovehate him haha.

  4. Oh Brodie!! I haven't read most of the books on that list too!

Let's begin with book 1: Angelfall.

Hmmm...I have been wanting to read it but just haven't got the chance to! I am hoping there's a paperback copy of it because if it's only available in E-book? I am going to cry!! That gorgeous cover and amazing story deserves to be on every one's shelves I think!

    Book 2: Catching Jordan.

GAH. I WANT THIS BOOK SO BADLY. I also read great reviews on this book and football sounds really awesome. Not to mention a GIRL playing football? Now that is SO COOL! I need to read this soon!

    Book 3: Shift.

YAY! I HAVE READ THIS! Shade was like freaking awesome and Shift was even more awesome. Team Zachary FOREVER. I love Logan but I can't resist the Scottish accent! TEAM KILT! Absolutely can't wait for Shine!

Book 4: Desires of the Dead.

I have seen The Body Finder series around the bookstores but was never convinced to get a copy and read it. I don't know why but I'm just not that intrigued with the concept and the characters. But, if Brodie loves it, I definitely need to read this book SOON! ;)

    Book 5: The False Princess

Now, this is a book I haven't heard of before. The cover is quite gorgeous and I love the sound of it. Better add this to my TBR!

    Book 6: Ashes

I ALSO HEARD GREAT THINGS ABOUT THIS BOOK! I think the US cover one was so creepy and made me scared of reading it :P But, I love the UK cover. Better add this to my TBR!

Whew, that was like writing an essay, lol. Hmm..I honestly can't think of a 2011 releases I regret not reading..maybe Bloodlines? But I've got a copy already and I'm just keeping it closer to the release date of The Golden Lily so that I don't die after the killer ending in Bloodlines you guys have been talking about! :P

I can't wait for the 2011/older books WE should read! I hope Harry Potter is not mentioned in the list? ;P

  5. You haven't read Desires of the Dead OR Ashes!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh Brodie, you're missing out on some fantastic books! *shakes head* haha.

  6. It pleases me to see both Angelfall and Ashes on this list! They are both so gripping and amazing. I got the best kind of rush reading them because I was so, so hooked. I really hope you love them; I'm optimistic that you will! :D

I'm actually planning to maybe read Catching Jordan tonight! I've heard good things, too, and I'm in the mood to read some fluff before I finish up the Chaos Walking trilogy this week (tears will be had, I'm sure).

  8. Uhuh. I agree!!!

Angelfall - because I have it, started it, liked it but haven't finished it. Beware though. Kai says there are creepy things here!

Catching Jordan - omg. I've been on the lookout for this one for sooooooo long. Wasn't able to get a review copy and wasn't able to see a finished copy anywhere (which reminds me) - I need to request a copy of this at the bookstore!

Desires of the Dead - I got a hardcover of this from Inkpop/Harper Teen but I lent it to Kai and borrowed her copy of The Body Finder which I haven't read yet. Bad me.

The False Princess - eeep! This sounds so amazing but again I couldn't find a copy anywhere!!

Shift - haven't read this series yet but I'm tempted to! Maybe I need to?

Ashes - Kai will give me a copy. <3 She tells me it's freaking amazing!

    Love your post! :)

  9. Catching Jordan is one I am dying to read. I must check and see if any of the bookstores near me actually has a copy. Fingers crossed!

I love this post, because often we overlook amazing books. This totally made me remember I wanted to get my hands on Catching Jordan so I am sure it reminded other people too!

  10. I read Desires of the Dead late, and I can say that, although the first book was better, the Jayliciousness does NOT END. It gets only sexier and hotter and sweeter and ALL THE THINGS you want :D

Catching Jordan! Bro, I FEEL YOU on this one. I haven't read it yet either and I have to give a whirl soon, because I want to read Stealing Parker when it comes out and be all familiar with the author's work beforehand so that I can feel properly excited about it. I also agree with you on The False Princess! There was one review in particular that has me dying to read it, and good thing I HAVE IT IN MY KINDLE. Let me know when you read it!

  12. I wasn't a fan of Shift OR TBF, but I hope you like it and DotD. 2011 releases I need to read...hmm Enclave and a Touch Mortal. Own them both and STILL haven't read them...

ALL THE BOOKS I DIDN'T READ BECAUSE THEY ALL SOUND SO BLOODY AMAZING.

    Angelfall
    - Uh, yeah. The blogosphere kind of EXPLODED and I want to read this one so so sooooo badly.

    Catching Jordan
    - Okay so THIS one sounds like one that will make me all giddy and giggly and I need some more books like that in my life. Plus, the MC sounds like a strong lead and I love the sound of that romance :)

    Shift
    - I haven't even read Shade yet :( I think I've gotten it from the library like TWICE and returned it both times unread. I keep hearing such awesome things about it and WHO DOESN'T WANT TO READ A BOOK WITH A GUY IN A KILT?

    Desires of the Dead
    - Same story with me! I thought TBF was so creative and the best-friend-turned-lover story is always adorable. I need to get my hands on the sequel!

    The False Princess
    - I remember reading a review & interview with the author for this book and I think I even put it on hold at the library. I love the sound of this one and it sounds like a really refreshing kind of read. Hopefully I'll get to this one in 2012!

    Ashes
    - I... actually haven't read much on this book. + the US cover freaks me out. But I will take your word for it if you end up liking it so read it so that you can convince me! :D

SOME OTHERS THAT I HAVE YET TO READ:

    - Hunting Lila
    - Bloodrose
    - Clockwork Prince
    - Uncommon Criminals
    - Beauty Queens

I wanted to read all of those SO BADLY and I still haven't D: There are waaaaay more of course, but I'll stop now :P I even own all of those (except Hunting Lila... again...) I swear I bemoan the fact that I haven't read HL every week on your blog. ONE DAY!

  14. You NEED to read Shift, Brodie!! I fell head over heels in love with the world Jeri created in Shade, but I have to admit that Shift was SO MUCH BETTER. (Mostly because Logan wasn't as aggravating and I love him like crazy over Zachary! :P) And Jeri also just released the first chapter of Shine on her blog which literally stopped my heart. It was terrible and awful and the most torturous first-chapter teaser EVER. The beginning of May can't come fast enough! x)

And I know what you mean about Angelfall! Everyone I know who read it LOVED it, and they're all pressuring me to buy it when it comes out in paperback. It's definitely on my TBR-immediately list too! ;)

This is why our TBR piles are so long: We have so many awesome leftovers from last year that we need to get to LOL! Love this post, Brodie! :) <3

  15. Ahh, I also didn't get a chance to read Catching Jordan so I am DETERMINED to do so this year! Because you know what? I love books that leave you with a stupid grin on your face. YES I DO. Ha! xD

    ReplyDelete
  16. You haven't read Desires of the Dead? Get to it, Brodie! There are Jay moments in that book that will make you DROOL!!!

I want to read Angelfall too, but when I tried to buy it, I couldn't find it anywhere, by which I mean its not on The Book Depo for the free international shipping!

The main book I missed out on in 2011 was Divergent, but I've read it now and OMG! LOVED!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Haha, I haven't read any of these either! :P Though to be fair, I do own Catching Jordan and Desires of the Dead.

Oh wait, I lie. I have read Shift. Not a fan of the series though, but everyone else seems to love it!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have Catching Jordan on my to read list but haven't heard of the others! We must miss out on SOOOO many books, if only we could clone ourselves so we could read every book!

    ReplyDelete
  19. errrr.... Sarah's list is a LOT longer... :S (Divergent, DoSaB, Lola... uh...)
You know what's funny about Desires of the Dead? I have the same thing with Maggie Stiefvater's Wolves of Mercy Falls books. I ADORED--like, crazy loved--the first two, but just haven't been bothered to pick up the third, despite OWNING it.

Ooooh, if you read Angelfall, and love it, I will TOTALLY read it... no pressure or anything :D

    ReplyDelete
  20. I need to write you a letter or something to express my love for Angelfall. That book is amazing and you have a lot to look forward to! I can't wait for you to get stuck into it. :D

I understand what you mean about not getting to read even your most-anticipated books because of time. I have a huge backlog of books I need to get round to myself! :)

  21. So many awesome titles and Catching Jordan was defo a favourite of mine last year. I can't wait to see more work from the author. Awesome post! Donna xoxo

  22. I swear, if I started making this list, IT WOULD NEVER END!!! No matter how much I read, it seems like I can never keep up with all the new releases! Out of the ones you listed, I've only read Angelfall, though most of the rest are on my to-read list. Also, thanks for the link love! :)

  23. ALL OF THE ABOVE.
And probably like, ALL 2011 releases and 2010 and 2009 and 2008...

Damn me and my busy life :/

BUT, 2012 WILL be MY year xDD

Yes, this comment was pretty much a comment, JUST for comments sake. Get over it woman :P <333

  24. Angelfall was a good and entertaining read :) It was my second selfpub novel this year the other one I've read(originally selfpub) was Switched by Amanda Hocking and honestly Susan Ee's Angelfall was sooo, SOOOOO much better than Switched :) I hope you get to read Angelfall soon, Brodie.

  25. Ah, Brodie! I would comment on your Insurgent review (I'm SO INCREDIBLY JEALOUS that you got to read it already, btw) but I told myself that I would not read any reviews of Insurgent until I read it for myself. Anyway, what a great topic for a post! I read Catching Jordan this year (the very first book of 2012) and loved it. There are so many books that I wish I read in 2011. To name a couple, Hourglass and Forbidden. I hope I can read them this year, though! Don't wanna get too behind. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I still have Shift to read! You, I don't think I could tell you what books that came out last year that I missed out on. There are so many books, I forget. However, I'm sure a large number of them are in the mountingof books that is taking up the whole of my desk. I WILL read them. It just might take a while.

Brodie, would you like to buy me a library, so I can actually see what books I have? I'd love you forever. No? Well then, I settle for that other post about 2011 releases I should read! Then I can go dig them out of the mountain. Or mine, I'd probably have to mine them. Lol. :D
